Internships

Predoctoral Psychology Internship

In collaboration with the National Psychology Training Consortium (NPTC), Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic offers predoctoral psychology internships in integrated primary care at four clinical locations in west-central Oregon, two in Woodburn and two in Salem. The 12-month program provides extensive clinical experiences, including focal areas that allow interns to offer same-day primary care services for underserved patients, with particular emphasis on pediatric and adolescent patients. Interns will learn generalist psychology skills including brief assessment, intervention, and onsite consultation to the primary care team regarding psychiatric/psycho-social concerns, health behavior change, and prepare for a future as a clinical psychologist. NPTC and Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic ensure a strong training year with extensive didactic training, supervisory support, and clinical experiences. This training will create a sound foundation for psychologists looking to further training in integrated settings and a future as a behavioral health consultant in the primary care behavioral health model of integration.

We encourage interns to apply their scholarship to practice and learn through the sequential, gradual development of the clinical and professional skills necessary to become strong, generalist professionals. Interns will participate in Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) encounters as observers at first. Later, interns see patients semi-independently in proctor visits. The intern does an initial assessment and contextual interview with the patient and then meets with their supervisor to review the case. After the supervisor review, the intern returns to the patient with the supervisor to finish the visit.
